I’ve always been aware that most people have an aversion to selling, but it just occurred to me that the percentage of people who don’t like selling is the same as the percentage of people who live paycheck to paycheck. Over 80 % of the population lives paycheck to paycheck, and a similar percentage don’t like sales. Maybe that’s because the 20% who do like sales get to sell to the 80% who only like to buy.
Bad salespeople give sales a bad name. Good salespeople are educated and help direct you to the best purchase of the thing you already want. You hear things like “He’s such a good sales person he could sell ice to an Eskimo”. Well, only a bad salesperson would sell ice to an Eskimo.
Learning to be a good salesperson is the fastest way to change your life. Go serve someone by selling them something they need.
Sales is vital to every aspect of our lives.
You need to sell your boss and coworkers at work. You need to sell your children on why it’s important to do their chores and homework. You have to sell your spouse on certain ideas. (All the menfolk just perked up!) or on where to go on vacation! (I got your back ladies). Quality sales is nothing more than uncovering the value you have to offer in such a way that your customer is happy to exchange the money in their pocket for the value you are offering. Most people who are bad at sales don’t believe in the value they have to offer. If you’re a die-hard Chevy fan but you can only get a job at the Ford dealer, you’re not going to be as effective as if you were selling Chevys. If you are selling something you don’t believe in, find a way out.
It is also critical that you understand the value your client is looking for not the value you think they need. What they value is usually not what you value.
Take the time to find out what your client wants and then sell it to them!
Salespeople are the backbone of the economy
Nothing happens until something gets sold. You like to buy new things, right? So, if that’s the case, why don’t you like selling stuff to people to make them happy? If you have a product or service that is valuable, you have a moral obligation to sell it to as many people as you can.
Proverbs 11:26 says,
“He that withholdeth corn, the people shall curse him: but blessing shall be upon the head of him that selleth it.”
You see, it doesn’t say to him that giveth it away! When people pay for something they care about it, they care for it and they care to use it. Don’t be afraid to charge for your stuff. If you give it away, they won’t care for it and won’t care to use it. What good does it do if you give your value to the world, but they don’t use it because they perceive its value to be what you charged? Nothing.
Go change the world and let them know just how valuable you are!
